Lakeside Veterinary Center is located in between Baltimore and Washington, DC with easy access to the beach and the mountains. We are looking for an associate veterinarian for our SA/exotic practice. Case load is about 50% dog and cat and 50% small mammal, bird and reptile. Since our owner, Dr. Jeffrey Rhody, is ABVP certified in Exotic Companion Mammal, most of our exotic case load is mammals.
The right person would be a kind person with a good attitude and work ethic. Experience with exotic species and/or a strong interest is a must.
We are primarily looking for a FT associate, but a PT position would be considered for the right person.
Our practice mission is to provide the best care possible for each pet/owner, to honor the human:animal bond no matter the species, and to treat each pet as if it were our own.
Our clients generally allow work ups. If you are interested in internal medicine and surgery, you will have a good time here. Hours are 40-45 hours a week (every other Saturday and 1 weekday off a week. No after hours emergencies are required. Paid vacation, sick leave and paid personal days are part of a package of generous benefits. Starting salary will be $70,000 with annual reviews. Other benefits are available such as health insurance, discount on veterinary services and products, and we are considering a 401K program with a 3% match. CE will be paid for and may emphasize exotics, dentistry, and/or ultrasound if this is needed to allow you to perform comfortably at our practice. We guarantee enough CE to maintain Maryland state licensure but amount of CE usually exceeds this amount. We want you to learn and grow with us. Long term employment is our goal!
What we ask of you is Maryland licensure, USDA accreditation, a good sense of humor, and an open mind. Mentorship will be provided as needed-- more intense in the first month than later but you will always be able to ask questions and get answers. A lot of mentorship may involve the ART of practice. Being a 1983 graduate of OSU, Dr. Rhody has a wealth of knowledge of this to go along with over 35 years of practice.
Over time, we will be glad to support your endeavor to become ABVP certified in any discipline you choose. Certification is strictly optional.
