The Purdue Emergency Mentorship program is designed for someone who has recently graduated from veterinary school and wants to pursue a career in emergency medicine, or a practitioner looking for a career change. The program is a 2-year commitment, with the first year focused on mentored training and the second year a supported role as a primary ER clinician. The Emergency Clinician Mentorship Program is designed to improve the applicant’s critical thinking, diagnostic and treatment skills while also allowing them to gain experience working with a busy emergency caseload in a teaching environment.
In addition to mentoring and hands-on experience, the applicant will receive compensation and benefits reflective of a full-time professional staff employee, including retirement, paid time off, health insurance, continuing education funds, and more.

6 weeks of initial training/boot camp working side by side with a DACVECC during daytime hours (7a-6p)
9 weeks of continued training/boot camp working side by side with a skilled emergency veterinarian during swing hours (6p-2a)
15 weeks of specialty training in internal medicine, neurology, ophthalmology, surgery/anesthesia, radiology, and cardiology during daytime hours
18 weeks of mentored emergency work experience with a skilled emergency doctor working 6p-2a
Year 2 will see the mentee integrated completely into the ECC schedule working 40 hours per week in an assigned shift. In both years, some commitments to weekend and holiday coverage will be expected. The Year 2 mentee will still have support in the form of overlap with the swing DACVECC and through the on-call system for challenging specialty cases.
