The Patient Care Technician functions include, but are not limited to, providing the care and basic needs of animals being groomed, boarded or that are patients of Kremer Veterinary Services, including cleaning of cages and runs and ward areas and the proper feeding and care of all boarding and hospitalized animals. The Patient Care Technician operates under the supervision of the Patient Care Technician Manager, Practice Manager, and DVM Partner.
PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Observe animal appearance and activity for general physical condition, obvious signs of illness, disease, and discontent.
Properly handle patients as required and appropriately restrain patients as directed.
Walk boarded dogs several times a day according to hospital protocol to provide exercise and time for the elimination of bowels and bladder.
Socialize and exercise borders in a safe manner at all times.
Provide care for pets housed/visiting the hospital. Report signs of illness, disease, injury or unusual activity to animal health technicians/veterinarians.
Apply knowledge of normal food and liquid requirements of animals. As required, provide special food and liquids.
Discharge and admit patients at the request of receptionists, practitioners and veterinary assistants and technicians. Ensure that patients/borders are clean and fresh smelling prior to discharge.
Under the supervision of veterinarians or technicians, assist with the administration of medications, post-operative care or preparation of samples for laboratory examination, collect specimens, clean instruments, fill prescriptions as authorized.
Ensure that cages and patients are properly numbered and identified and that authorized property (toys, treats, blankets, leashes) are stored in the proper area and identified.
Clean, disinfect and maintain kennels, cages, runs and litter boxes as often as is necessary to ensure no cages or kennels are soiled and odors are not apparent. Perform general cleaning in other areas of the hospital to control the spread of disease. Wash and sterilize water and food bowls.
Wear personal protective equipment required for the area and maintain the personal protective equipment in good working order.
Launder and dry towels and blankets.
Patrol hospital grounds daily, picking up any trash and stool material. Empty trash.
Bathe and dry animals. As required, perform pedicures, express anal glands, and ear cleaning.
Collect any samples requested by the doctor or technician.
Know proper animal restraint techniques, assist with patient restraint.
Deep cleaning of the hospital.
Record information such as feeding schedules, appearance, the behavior of patients that are boarded, groomed or hospitalized.
Exhibit a technical knowledge of services sold, including dietary products. Demonstrate the ability to explain and educate clients on products and answer their questions regarding product purchase/use.
Clean bathrooms daily.
Vacuum and mop hospital daily.
Work well with all employees and ensure that your actions support the hospital, the doctors and the practice philosophy.
Notify the supervisor of needed maintenance.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Veterinary Assistant :
This position is part-time with the potential to go full-time and personal pet benefits available after 90 days. Applicant must be available to work a combination of mornings, evenings, weekends, and some holidays. The assistant position will include: assisting the doctors and technicians, administering medications and vaccinations, collecting urine/fecal/blood samples for lab tests, client communication, etc. Our practice offers full-service veterinary care 7 days a week, boarding, grooming, doggie daycare, training, and adoptions. Pay determined by experience.

Employee needs be self-motivated and able to stay on task.
Employee must have proper phone etiquette, and be able to communicate well with co-workers and clients.
Employee must be able to stand and walk for up to 12 hours. Use of hands to grasp, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms.
Employee is required to sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and/or crawl.
Employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 50lbs without assistance and 100lbs with assistance
Employee may be exposed to medications, chemicals, anesthetics and x-rays potentially harmful to pregnancy or respiratory conditions (asthma, allergies, etc)
Employee may be required to work after hours
Employee will be required to restrain and care for unruly/aggressive dogs, cats, pigs, pocket pets, small reptiles, birds, fish, etc
Employee may be required to assist with euthanasia – including convenience euthanasia
Employee will be required to handle feces, urine, blood, pus, other fluids, and detached body parts of animals
