Externship - Equine Ambulatory Practice
Old Dominion Equine Associates
We hope to provide veterinary students with exposure to a high quality sport horse practice and hope for the practice to develop relationships with potential interns. We aim to provide a hands-on experience that cannot be achieved in the classroom. Students will have an opportunity to ride along with each veterinarian in the practice. We do not accept more than one student at a time so we can fully devote our time to teaching and answering any questions that the student may have. Appointments are scheduled Monday through Friday and often on Saturday mornings. Work on Sundays is generally limited to emergencies and continuing care of patients. Types of cases: General Practice/Preventative Care: 30% Reproduction: 15% Lameness Sports Medicine: 35% Pre-Purchase Exam: 15% Complementary Medicine: 5% We provide excellent onsite housing with a private bedroom, bathroom and a full kitchen! Our housing is at no cost, although students are free to make their own accommodations if desired. Although the extern apartment is located at the main office building, a personal vehicle is still recommended.

Extern should have a strong interest in equine ambulatory practice along with a good work ethic and positive attitude. We accept externs in any year of their veterinary study, but 4th year vet students are generally given scheduling priority. Please submit the following by email to Melissa Robertson (staff.odea@gmail.com): 1) cover letter 2) resume 3) a completed externship application form (available by clicking the link below or visiting our website in the about us/intern/extern section). http://www.olddominionequine.com/about-us/extern-intern-programs.html Externs are responsible for their own insurance. Student professional liability insurance can be obtained from AVMA-PLIT or through your school in some cases. Proof will be required upon your arrival. |
