About Allegheny Equine Veterinary Services / Allegheny Veterinary Services
The practice started in 2005 as an ambulatory only service and in 2015 opened a 5000 square foot hospital complete with recovery stall, stocks, ICU stalls, heated treatment area and paddocks. An additional barn under is construction. We are very vested in the community and active with local horse associations and 4-H. The practice sees primarily pleasure and trail horses with some western performance, endurance, and small breeding operations. Large animal patient load is primarily equine with occasional beef cattle and small ruminants. Practice is equipped with digital x-ray, digital ultrasound, electronic medical records, Abaxis lab, tonometry, and advanced dentistry equipment. The practice is located just off of a new interstate with easy access for trailers. We pride ourselves on combining high quality medicine with concierge level service. Annual exams are a standard and help us build long lasting relationships with our clients. The practice currently draws from a two-hour radius and the nearest referral center is four hours. Since expanding with a new location, the practice has also developed a busy small animal practice that includes services from preventative c...are and elective surgery to orthopedic surgery. Appointments for both the large and small animal patients are Monday – Friday. Emergency service is offered to our regular clients. Doctors receive large production bonuses for emergencies that are seen. Emergency call is split among the doctors. Support staff includes, a large animal coordinator and practice manager (with the practice 11 years), two receptionists, and a large animal technician. Small animal technicians are available to assist with in-clinic cases. Large animal technician will be provided during orientation period and as needed depending on case load. We are a growing practice and have established excellent training programs and hospital protocols for both the large animal and small animal staff. All staff members have required continuing education. AreaElkins is located adjacent to the million acre Monongahela National Forest. Canaan Valley, Timberline and Snowshoe mountain ski resorts are within our regular practice area. The area is rural and an outdoor mecca with abundant native streams, hiking and skiing.
