Interests in Swine, Beef, calves, and Embryo Transfer would be a plus. Start mixed and grow your specialty until it is much of what you do! We keep pace with our changing industries.
Dairy practice involves local family owned farms and large dairies further away. Herd sizes range from 100 to 9000 cows. We influence 30,000 cows. We are actively involved in building design, cow comfort, vaccination programs, ventilation, nutrition, reproduction and treatment of individual animals. We perform milking system evaluations and in house milk cultures including myco. Team meetings and peer groups are used to foster continuous improvement. Beef practice includes small cow calf producers, some feedlots, and dairy beef. Swine practice includes designing customized health and production programs. This involves record evaluation, serologic testing and disease monitoring. We provide a truck equipped with a fully stocked Bowie unit for each doctor including an Easi-Scan ultrasound.
We practice high quality pet medicine in our three clinics in Maria Stein, Versailles and Wapakoneta. We use isoflourane anesthesia and have digital X-ray, ultrasound, pain management, surgery monitoring and therapeutic laser. Support staff is robust with 28 staff members including six registered animal technicians. We use a computer system that networks all clinics. In clinic diagnostics include diagnostic blood chemistry, bacterial culture and fecal analysis.
Mentoring is something we do very well with extensive training of our new associates in the first few months. Professional developement is part of our culture with paid CE days, registration and travel stipend and weekly doctors meetings. Work should integrate with life with a four and a half day average work week after training. The compensation package is competitive with a base and bonus Prosal system that has served us well for 25 years. The on call schedule after training is one week night and one weekend out of six. Excellent benefits include health/ disability/ liability insurance, paid vacation, license and professional dues, retirement, uniforms and massage.
Maria Stein Animal Clinic is a long established 8 doctor mixed practice with offices in Maria Stein, Versailles, and Wapakoneta, Ohio. We have a strong support staff for animal care and diagnostic results. Mentoring is a significant focus for new graduates and for introducing experienced doctors to client expectations. After training, a reduced work schedule is followed to help doctors balance work with life. We are a large enough to shuffle schedules to get doctors and staff to family events and needs. Our pet practice has shown tremendous growth in recent years so continuing education, equipment purchases, and staff hires have focused on enhancing that aspect of the practice. Cattle practice, especially dairy, is a mainstay of the practice and is nationally known for management consulting, facility design, milk quality evaluations and milk culture labs. Of course, reproduction and sick cow work fills the majority of work days. Ultrasound has been used tor 20 years and vaccination programs are dynamic. Our area is many beautiful small towns filled with locally owned businesses and manufacturing and schools that foster State winning athletics and academics. There are three recreational lakes in the practice and cities of Dayton, Fort Wayne, and Lima are an hour away.
