Cape Cod Veterinary Specialists (CCVS) is seeking motivated and dedicated veterinary students to join our team for a seasonal Doctor’s Assistant role. This opportunity is designed exclusively for DVM (or equivalent) students eager to gain hands-on experience and deepen their knowledge of veterinary medicine in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.
About the Role
As a seasonal Doctor’s Assistant, you will work closely with an assigned doctor to support patient care, diagnosis, and treatment. Your responsibilities will include maintaining accurate medical records, facilitating communication between departments, patient families, and referring veterinarians, and contributing to efficient patient flow and exceptional client service. This role offers a valuable opportunity to observe and participate in advanced veterinary practices and strengthen your clinical skills.
Educational Experience
This role offers a comprehensive learning experience that includes:
Participation in case discussions and clinical decision-making
Opportunities to observe and assist in procedures and surgeries
Support in medical appointments, nursing care, and client education
Involvement in laboratory tasks, radiology, emergency procedures, surgery, and anesthesia
Key Responsibilities
Maintain, update, and write medical records
Support doctors in delivering high-quality patient care
Assist clients and patients with professionalism and efficiency
Promote smooth patient flow to minimize wait times
Communicate effectively with referring veterinarians and local hospitals
Facilitate patient discharges and diagnostic requisitions
Schedule & Compensation
Starting salary: $20/hr
Schedule includes day, swing/night shifts, weekends, and holiday rotations
Seasonal full-time hours (minimum of 8 weeks during the summer)
Qualifications
Currently enrolled in an AVMA-accredited veterinary school
Availability for a minimum of 8 weeks over the summer
Proficiency in computer programs (Word, Excel) and ability to learn veterinary software
Strong customer service and professional-level typing skills
Ability to balance and prioritize multiple tasks
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Exceptional organizational and time management skills
Respectful, team-oriented approach with attention to detail
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and stand for extended periods

Cape Cod Veterinary Specialists (CCVS) is a growing specialty and emergency-critical care hospital in Buzzards Bay and Dennis, MA. As the only emergency and specialty referral hospital serving Cape Cod and the Islands, CCVS continues to grow to keep up with the needs of our community. Our team is made up of more than 20 specialists across eight specialties, which include ECC, surgery, anesthesiology, internal medicine, cardiology, diagnostic imaging, dermatology, and ZEMS.
